How Much Does CCTV Cost in Australia?

CCTV cost depends on camera count, camera type, recorder and storage, cabling difficulty, access equipment, network design and installation. Compare complete scopes rather than headline kit prices.

Quick answer

CCTV cost depends on camera count, camera type, recorder and storage, cabling difficulty, access equipment, network design and installation. Compare complete scopes rather than headline kit prices.

What belongs in a complete CCTV price?

Cost component Questions to ask
Cameras How many, what resolution, lens, night technology and analytics?
NVR Channels, PoE ports, bandwidth, analytics and drive bays?
Storage Is a surveillance hard drive included and how many days will it retain?
Installation Single or double storey, cable access, external conduit, lifts or difficult surfaces?
Networking PoE switches, wireless bridges, fibre, 4G or remote buildings?
Handover App users, alert setup, playback training and documentation?

Why we do not publish a single universal figure

A four-camera kit price is not a four-camera installed-system price. One quote may include a hard drive, cabling, brackets, commissioning and support while another excludes them. Live promotions also change. Use the current CCTV category for hardware pricing, then request an installation scope for the property.

Three useful budget levels

Focused system

Protect the few scenes that must prove an incident, use a recorder with expansion room, and avoid premium features on low-risk views.

Balanced system

Cover the main approaches, add stronger night cameras selectively, size storage properly and include app handover.

Complex system

Multi-building, ANPR, enterprise integration, difficult access, fibre, wireless bridges or formal governance require design and commissioning rather than a kit-only comparison.

Quote comparison checklist

  • Same camera models and lenses?
  • Same NVR and hard-drive capacity?
  • All cables, brackets and weatherproofing included?
  • App setup, alerts and training included?
  • Warranty and support pathway stated?

Worked quote example

Two four-camera quotes can differ because one includes an 8-channel NVR, surveillance hard drive, junction boxes, cabling, commissioning and app training while the other includes only cameras and a recorder without storage. Normalize the inclusions before deciding which is cheaper.

Costs that appear later

Allow for future cameras, replacement drives, mobile data for 4G systems, batteries, cloud subscriptions where applicable, elevated-access servicing and time spent administering users. A slightly larger recorder can be cheaper than replacing a full recorder later.

Current equipment-only price examples

Public SecurityWholesalers prices checked 15 July 2026. These are dated examples, not permanent quotes. Promotions, stock, hard-drive selections and kit contents can change.

Example system Published price when checked Important inclusion or exclusion
Uniarch/Uniview 4-camera 6MP kit About $550-$663 Check whether the exact option includes a hard drive; category packages differ
Uniview 4-camera OwlView 8MP kit About $1,287-$1,387 Example included an 8-channel IQ NVR and 4TB HDD
Dahua mixed 4-camera 6MP system About $1,197 Two TiOC plus two standard turrets and an 8-channel NVR; no HDD in the referenced listing
Dahua six-camera TiOC system About $1,876 Six TiOC cameras and 8-channel NVR; hard drive selected separately
Hikvision six-camera ColorVu 3.0 system About $2,100 Referenced package included 8-channel NVR and 4TB HDD
Hikvision eight-camera ColorVu 3.0 system About $3,252 Referenced package included eight hybrid-light cameras, 8-channel NVR and 4TB HDD
TP-Link VIGI SP9030 solar power system About $1,099 plus camera option Compatible 4G camera was listed as an additional option; confirm the exact bundle

These examples show why "four cameras" is not a price category. A value 6MP kit, a full-colour system, an active-deterrence system and an enterprise-grade design may all have four cameras but very different storage, optics, analytics and support.

Reasonable equipment planning bands

System size Equipment-only planning band What changes the result
2-4 cameras Approximately $550-$1,800+ Brand tier, deterrence, resolution, NVR and whether storage is included
4-6 cameras Approximately $900-$2,400+ Mixed versus premium cameras, HDD capacity, recorder class and accessories
8 cameras Approximately $1,500-$3,500+ All-premium versus mixed cameras, 4TB+ storage, lens choices and NVR capability
Remote solar/4G position Approximately $1,100-$1,400+ per independent position Camera, SIM/data, pole, mounting, local storage and installation

These are editorial planning bands derived from current public product examples, not installation quotes. Enterprise systems, specialist ANPR, thermal, fibre and multi-site VMS licensing can sit well above them.

What professional installation adds

Installation pricing depends heavily on the property. A single-storey home with accessible roof space is different from a two-storey rendered building, a warehouse needing elevated work, or a remote site needing trenching and poles. A proper installation quote should state cable routes, penetrations, conduit, access equipment, network changes, weatherproof junction boxes, recorder location, commissioning and user handover.

How storage changes the price

A kit without a hard drive cannot provide normal local NVR recording until storage is added. Current drive options on product pages can add hundreds of dollars as capacity increases. Compare usable storage and the retention calculation, not only the drive label. A recorder with two drive bays may cost more initially but can be cheaper than replacing a one-bay recorder when retention grows.

Five-year ownership costs

  • Replacement surveillance drives and battery-backed UPS batteries.
  • Mobile data for every independent 4G camera.
  • Cloud subscriptions where the selected product uses them.
  • Battery replacement and panel cleaning for solar systems.
  • Elevated-access servicing and call-outs.
  • Time for firmware, user-account and evidence-export administration.
  • Recorder replacement if the first system has no channel, bandwidth or drive-bay headroom.

How to request a comparable quote

Send every supplier the same floor plan, camera objectives, night conditions, retention target and installation assumptions. Require exact model numbers, lenses, NVR, hard drive, brackets, cabling, commissioning and warranty. A quote that cannot state what is included is not yet comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Why do CCTV quotes vary so much?

Camera capability, storage, cable access, property size, network design and installation scope vary. Compare inclusions line by line.

Is a hard drive included with every CCTV kit?

No. Some kits include storage and others are sold without a hard drive. Confirm this before comparing prices.

Is professional installation included in online kit prices?

Usually not unless expressly stated. Hardware supply and installed-system pricing should be treated separately.
