How to Share TP-Link VIGI App Access
User Handover
Summary
Use this page when a TP-Link VIGI recorder or camera is already online and now needs access shared to family, staff or managers.
Applies to
- VIGI App user handover
- Owner and shared-user access
- TP-Link ID and device-sharing workflows
Difficulty and time
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Estimated time: 10 to 20 minutes
What you will need
- Working owner TP-Link ID
- Second user account details
- Recorder or camera already visible in the app
The most common VIGI app handover mistake is trying to bind the same device separately under several accounts. That usually creates confusion about who really owns the site.
Before you start
- Confirm the device is stable in the owner account first.
- Make sure the second user has their own TP-Link ID where required.
- Decide whether the user needs live view only or playback too.
- Keep the owner account details recorded for future recovery.
Step 1: Confirm who owns the site account
The owner account should normally belong to the customer, business owner or other long-term responsible party.
- Record the owner email or mobile path.
- Make sure the owner can already see the device live.
- Do not hand ownership to a temporary installer login unless a clean handover plan already exists.
Step 2: Use sharing instead of rebinding
Once the device is bound to the correct owner, share it from that account instead of adding it again from another phone as though it is unclaimed.
- Open the device in the owner account.
- Find the supported share or user-management path in the app.
- Invite or assign the second user through the supported workflow.
- If the second user sees "already bound", stop and check account ownership rather than forcing a rebinding attempt.
Step 3: Test the second user properly
- Confirm the second user can open live view.
- Confirm playback only if that permission is supposed to exist.
- Test away from local Wi-Fi if remote access matters.
- Document who still receives notifications after handover.

Frequently asked questions
- Should every user log into the same TP-Link ID?
Usually no. A separate owner path with proper sharing is cleaner for long-term support.
- Why can the second user not just add the device directly?
Because the device may already be bound to the owner account. Sharing is usually the safer path.
- Should every shared user get playback rights?
Not always. Give only the access each user genuinely needs.
