Elderly Security Care Pathway

Before buying cameras, alarms or intercoms, decide what type of risk is leading. A home security system is excellent for duress, visitors, intrusion and visual context. It should not quietly replace medical response, aged-care assessment or family care planning.

Decision tool

Quick answer

If the main risk is break-ins, door answering or a resident who can press a panic button, security can lead. If the main risk is falls, fainting, dementia, wandering or no reliable family responder, medical alert or care-provider support should lead. Many real homes need both.

Care pathway table

Resident situation What should lead SecurityWholesalers role Non-product action
Lives alone, mostly independent, wants a way to call family. Security-led. AX PRO duress kit, wearable button, wall button, optional image verification. Write a family response list and test it monthly.
Recent fall, family can respond quickly, resident is comfortable with limited cameras. Combined plan. AX PRO panic, agreed PIRCAM or HiLook views, entry cameras. Discuss falls risk with GP, OT, My Aged Care or care provider.
Family live interstate or cannot respond at night. Medical-alert-led or monitored-response-led. Security equipment can support door safety and context. Choose a monitored personal alarm or formal response pathway.
Door scams, rushing to the entry or unknown visitors. Security-led. Hikvision intercom, entry camera, AX PRO panic point near living area. Create a visitor rule: if unsure, do not open.
Dementia, wandering or repeated confusion at exits. Care-provider-led. Door cameras and intercoms may support awareness. Speak with GP, Dementia Australia, My Aged Care or care provider before relying on security equipment.
Resident dislikes cameras inside. Consent-led security. Use exterior CCTV, intercom and panic buttons first. Respect private zones and document viewing rules.

Red flags

  • A quote starts with cameras before anyone asks who will respond.
  • The family expects ordinary CCTV to guarantee fall detection.
  • Only one person receives alerts and there is no backup.
  • The resident has dementia or wandering risk but no clinical or care-provider input.
  • The system depends on internet or power that nobody is responsible for paying or maintaining.
