FAQs
Is Akuvox a good intercom brand?
Yes, particularly for buyers who want a more modern smart intercom platform with app calling, indoor monitor options, and room to scale into larger homes or multi-tenant projects.
Is Akuvox better than a normal video doorbell?
For many projects, yes. Akuvox is usually a more complete intercom platform rather than a consumer doorbell product. It is better suited to gates, offices, apartments, and managed entry systems.
Can Akuvox work with a mobile app?
Yes, depending on the system design, network setup, cloud or SmartPlus configuration, and licensing where relevant.
Do I need an indoor monitor with Akuvox?
Not always, but many sites still benefit from one. Homes, offices, and apartment sites often work better when there is a fixed answer point as well as app access.
What is Akuvox 2-wire?
It is Akuvox's retrofit path for suitable older buildings where existing 2-wire cable can be reused to carry modern intercom communication using specific Akuvox devices.
How far can Akuvox 2-wire run?
70 metres or more can be possible in suitable 2-wire installations, and official Akuvox material references longer maximum distances in certain designs. The actual supported distance depends on cable type, cable condition, topology, number of devices, power, and the selected hardware.
Can Akuvox replace an old apartment intercom?
Often yes. Some buildings suit a 2-wire retrofit while others are better redesigned as fresh IP systems or staged upgrades.
Can Akuvox unlock a gate?
Yes, provided the gate motor input, relay path, and user workflow are designed properly.
Can Akuvox unlock a front door?
Yes, with the correct lock hardware and release design. The final answer depends on whether the site uses a strike, maglock, or another release path.
Can Akuvox work in apartment buildings?
Yes. That is one of the areas where Akuvox is often considered, especially when the site wants a more modern apartment intercom workflow.
Can Akuvox integrate with CCTV cameras?
In some configurations, yes, but compatibility should be checked during design rather than assumed across every system.
Is Akuvox suitable for DIY installation?
Simple jobs may be manageable for capable users, but many Akuvox projects are better handled by an installer because lock hardware, wiring, network setup, and release logic all matter.
Does Akuvox need internet?
Core local intercom operation is not always the same thing as cloud or app calling. If the buyer wants mobile app answering or remote unlock, the internet and network path need to be planned properly.
What should I check before buying an Akuvox system?
Check the door or gate hardware, cabling method, whether a monitor is needed, whether app-only answering is realistic, whether old 2-wire can be reused, and whether the site may need more doors or more users later.
Need help choosing the right Akuvox path?
Send us a photo of the entry, the lock area, any indoor monitor, and any existing intercom cable or cabinet. That usually tells us whether the job suits a simple IP door station, a proper monitor-based system, or a 2-wire retrofit using equipment such as the R20A-2, R20K-2, C313W-2, NS-2, and NC-2.
