When an NVR will not detect a camera, the problem is usually power, cable, activation, IP addressing, password mismatch or compatibility rather than a dead menu item.

When a PoE camera is dead, unstable or dropping in and out, the problem is usually power budget, cable quality, termination or the wrong switch path rather than an app issue.

If a CCTV camera looks fine by day and then goes black, blank or unusable at night, the problem is usually one of four things: the wrong night mode, poor power when the lights switch on, heavy reflection into the lens, or a camera type that needs more ambient light than the site actually has.

If a camera seems to have no infrared or no night vision, first make sure you are not expecting the wrong thing from the model. Some cameras use traditional IR, some use visible white light, and some full-colour cameras do not have normal infrared behaviour at all.

If you need the IP address of a CCTV camera, the cleanest path depends on how that camera is connected. A camera plugged into an NVR PoE port is not the same as a camera living on the wider LAN through a normal switch or router.

The best IP strategy for CCTV depends on the size of the site and who has to support it later. DHCP is not automatically wrong, and static IP is not automatically better. The real goal is a stable network path that the next technician can understand.

Most CCTV systems do not need fast internet to record locally, but they do need enough upload speed for the way people want to view them remotely. The real answer depends on how many users watch at once, whether they use mainstream or substream, and how aggressively the app pulls live video.

When P2P remote viewing stops working, the fault is usually not random. It is usually a router change, a cloud-status problem, a DNS or gateway issue, a double-NAT path, or the wrong app account.
