I have a Dahua DHI-NVR4208-8P-4KS2 NVR connected to a new HFW3667 Smart Dual Light camera.
The camera works correctly, but I cannot disable the visible white light. Online instructions refer to an internet or browser icon in the Camera List, but this icon does not appear on my NVR.
Dahua ConfigTool detects the NVR but cannot detect the camera. How can I disable the white light without disabling infrared night vision?
Answer
The DHI-NVR4208-8P-4KS2 is an older-generation NVR and may not display the newer Smart Dual Light controls through its local interface.
The camera is also connected directly to one of the NVR’s rear PoE ports. These PoE ports operate on a separate internal network, which is why ConfigTool can detect the NVR but cannot detect the camera from the normal home or business network.
The goal is to set the camera to IR Mode. This disables the visible white light while keeping infrared night vision operational.
Method 1: Check the NVR Image Settings
On the NVR, go to:
Main Menu > Camera > Image
Select the channel connected to the HFW3667 camera.
Look for settings called:
- Illuminator
- Fill Light
- Smart Illumination
- Smart Dual Light
- Day/Night
- White Light
Set the illumination mode to:
IR Mode
Also set:
- Smart Dual Light: Off or Close
- White Light: Off or Close
- Infrared Light: Auto
Click Apply and Save.
If these options are not available, access the camera directly using the steps below.
Method 2: Access the Camera Through the NVR PoE Network
Step 1: Find the Camera IP Address
On the NVR, go to:
Main Menu > Camera > Camera List
or:
Main Menu > Camera > Registration
Write down the camera’s IP address. Cameras connected to Dahua NVR PoE ports commonly use addresses such as:
10.1.1.65
Step 2: Connect a Laptop to the NVR
Connect a laptop by Ethernet cable to an unused PoE port on the rear of the NVR.
Temporarily disable Wi-Fi on the laptop.
Step 3: Assign a Manual IP Address
Set the laptop to a manual IPv4 address in the same range as the camera.
For example, if the camera IP address is 10.1.1.65, use:
- IP address:
10.1.1.200 - Subnet mask:
255.255.255.0 - Default gateway: Leave blank
- DNS: Leave blank
Step 4: Log Directly Into the Camera
Open a web browser and enter the camera IP address:
http://10.1.1.65
Log in using the camera administrator credentials.
If the NVR automatically initialised the camera, the camera password may be the same as the NVR administrator password.
Step 5: Disable the White Light
Depending on the camera firmware, go to one of the following menu paths:
Setting > Camera > Image > Illuminator
or:
Setting > Camera > Conditions > Illuminator
Change the illumination mode to:
IR Mode
Then confirm:
- White Light: Off or Close
- Smart Dual Light: Off or Close
- Infrared Light: Auto
Save the settings.
Step 6: Restore the Laptop Network Settings
After finishing, return the laptop’s network adapter to automatic IP addressing, also known as DHCP.
Re-enable Wi-Fi if required.
Alternative Method
If the laptop cannot communicate with the camera through an unused NVR PoE port, temporarily disconnect the camera from the NVR.
Connect the camera and laptop to the same standalone PoE switch, or power the camera using a PoE injector.
Dahua ConfigTool should then detect the camera, allowing direct browser access.
After changing the illumination mode to IR Mode, reconnect the camera to the NVR.
Should the Camera Be Reset?
A factory reset is not recommended because the camera is already activated, connected and recording correctly.
Resetting the camera may create additional password, activation or network configuration issues.
Will IR Mode Affect Night Vision?
No.
IR Mode disables the visible warm white light but keeps the camera’s infrared LEDs available for black-and-white night vision.
This is the recommended setting when visible lighting may disturb neighbours or illuminate nearby properties.
