Work through these steps in order.
1. Check the network cable
At the back of the NVR:
- Confirm a network cable is connected to the NVR’s LAN port.
- Make sure the other end is connected to:
- the modem/router, or
- a network switch connected to the modem/router.
- Do not connect the modem cable to one of the numbered camera PoE ports.
- Check for flashing network lights at:
- the NVR LAN socket
- the modem/router or switch port.
If there are no lights:
- Try another network cable.
- Try another LAN port on the modem/router.
- Bypass the network switch temporarily and connect the NVR directly to the modem/router.
2. Confirm the modem has internet
Connect a phone or computer to the same modem/router and confirm websites load.
If the internet is down, Hik-Connect will remain offline even though the cameras may still record locally.
3. Enable DHCP on the NVR
Using the monitor and mouse connected to the NVR, go to approximately:
Menu → Configuration → Network → General
or:
Menu → System → Network → TCP/IP
Then:
- Tick Enable DHCP.
- Click Apply or Save.
- Wait about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Reopen the network page.
The NVR should automatically receive:
- IP address
- subnet mask
- default gateway
- DNS server
A normal example might be:
IP address: 192.168.1.105
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 192.168.1.1
The exact numbers may be different depending on the modem.
4. Confirm DHCP has assigned an address
After enabling DHCP, check the IP address.
A valid address normally starts with something like:
192.168.0.x
192.168.1.x
10.0.0.x
If the NVR shows:
0.0.0.0
or:
169.254.x.x
the NVR is not receiving an address from the modem.
In that case:
- change the network cable
- try another modem LAN port
- connect the NVR directly to the modem
- restart the modem and NVR
5. Check Platform Access
Go to:
Menu → Configuration → Network → Advanced Settings → Platform Access
Depending on the firmware, this may be called:
- Hik-Connect
- Platform Access
- HiLookVision
- Cloud P2P
Check the following:
- Tick Enable.
- Select Hik-Connect as the platform access mode.
- Enter or confirm the verification code.
- Click Apply.
- Check the registration status.
You want it to show:
Register Status: Online
If it still shows Offline, continue below.
6. Check the Hik-Connect server address
If the Platform Access page has a server address field, use:
dev.hik-connect.com
Click Apply, then wait approximately one minute.
7. Check the date and time
Go to:
Menu → System → General → Date and Time
For Western Australia, set:
Time zone: GMT+08:00
Confirm the date and time are correct.
Enable NTP if available and use:
pool.ntp.org
Save the settings.
8. Restart the modem and NVR
Restart them in this order:
- Turn off the NVR.
- Restart the modem/router.
- Wait until the modem has fully reconnected to the internet.
- Turn the NVR back on.
- Wait two to five minutes.
- Check Platform Access again.
9. Test the network connection from the NVR
Look for:
Maintenance → Network Detection
or:
Maintenance → Net Detect
Test:
8.8.8.8
Also test the modem’s gateway address, which may be:
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
10.0.0.1
Results:
- Gateway fails: cable, modem port or network connection problem.
- Gateway works but
8.8.8.8fails: modem or internet problem. - Both work but Platform Access is offline: check Platform Access settings, date/time and firmware.
10. If Platform Access says Online but Hik-Connect still says Offline
On the phone:
- Turn off phone Wi-Fi.
- Test Hik-Connect using mobile data.
- Close and reopen the Hik-Connect app.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Confirm the NVR is added using its Hik-Connect QR code or serial number.
- Confirm the NVR is connected to the correct Hik-Connect account.
Do not delete the NVR from the app unless you have:
- the NVR admin password
- the Hik-Connect verification code
- access to the account currently bound to the NVR
Most common fix
The usual successful setup is:
Network cable from NVR LAN port to modem/router LAN port
DHCP enabled
Platform Access enabled
Server address: dev.hik-connect.com
Correct date and time
Restart modem and NVR
The key result is:
Platform Access Register Status: Online
