Product Overview

Built for industrial yards, warehouses, and perimeter fence lines where standard optical cameras fall short after dark, the Hikvision DS-2TD2628-7/QA is a bi-spectrum thermal and optical bullet camera that operates independently of visible light. Combining a 256 x 192 VOx uncooled thermal sensor with a 2688 x 1520 optical module, it provides simultaneous thermal detection and optical video in a single wall or pole-mounted housing. The 6.9mm thermal lens covers a 24.9° x 18.7° field of view, supporting deep-learning VCA with human detection to 56m and vehicle detection to 168m. Beyond perimeter intrusion, the DS-2TD2628-7/QA includes temperature exception alarms across a -20°C to 150°C range, fire detection, smoking detection, and a sun-reflection filter, making it suitable for warehouses, battery charging bays, waste storage areas, utility compounds, and construction sites. IP67-rated and operational from -40°C to 65°C, this camera is built for year-round outdoor installation. Please note: 70-day lead time applies.

Key Capabilities

Bi-Spectrum Thermal and Optical Imaging

Two independent imaging channels run simultaneously. The thermal sensor detects heat signatures regardless of lighting conditions, while the 4MP optical module provides standard video for visual verification. Both streams can be recorded and reviewed independently, giving operators complete situational awareness day and night.

Deep Learning VCA – Human and Vehicle Classification

On-camera deep learning algorithms classify targets as human or vehicle using the thermal channel, with a VCA detection range of 56m for humans and 168m for vehicles. Up to 4 rule types including line crossing, intrusion, region entrance, and region exit are supported, reducing nuisance triggers from animals, shadows, and weather.

Temperature Exception Alarm and Fire Detection

The thermal sensor monitors surface temperatures from -20°C to 150°C with an accuracy of approximately ±8°C, triggering alerts when temperatures exceed defined thresholds. Up to 21 temperature measurement rules are supported, covering points, areas, and lines. This positions the DS-2TD2628-7/QA as an early heat anomaly warning tool for industrial environments.

Smoking Detection Algorithm

An on-board smoking detection algorithm can identify the visual signature of smoke in the camera’s field of view, making this camera suitable for restricted no-smoking zones, fuel and chemical storage areas, loading docks, and battery charging areas where early smoke detection provides a practical safety benefit before a fire risk escalates.

Active Audible and Visual Alarm Output

Built-in white light with a range of up to 30m, a visual flashing alarm with adjustable frequency, and an audio alarm output give this camera active deterrence and on-site warning capability. Two alarm types are available: one linked to VCA events and one linked to temperature exceptions, allowing differentiated responses for intrusion versus heat anomalies.

All-Weather Industrial-Grade Enclosure

IP67-rated weatherproofing and a working temperature range of -40°C to 65°C make this bullet camera suitable for harsh outdoor locations including coastal industrial sites, cold-store loading areas, exposed utility compounds, and rural fence lines where environmental durability is a practical requirement rather than a marketing claim.

Best For

  • Warehouse and Factory Fire Risk Monitoring: The temperature exception alarm covering -20°C to 150°C with 21 configurable measurement rules suits battery charging bays, electrical switchboards, conveyor systems, and compressor rooms where abnormal heat precedes visible flame.
  • Perimeter Intrusion Detection Without Lighting Infrastructure: The thermal channel detects human movement to 56m and vehicles to 168m in complete darkness, removing the need for perimeter lighting to trigger reliable VCA alerts on fence lines, factory boundaries, and external yards.
  • Waste, Recycling, and Rubbish Storage Areas: Waste materials can heat significantly before visible smoke or flame appears. The combination of temperature exception alarms and smoking detection supports early intervention in commercial waste rooms, cardboard compactors, skip-bin storage, and industrial rubbish zones.
  • Construction Sites with Inconsistent Lighting: Thermal imaging is unaffected by dust, shadow, temporary fencing, and variable site lighting. With support for line crossing and region intrusion rules, the DS-2TD2628-7/QA suits tool cages, fuel tanks, site entrances, and material storage during and outside working hours.
  • Remote Utility and Infrastructure Sites: IP67 protection, PoE compatibility, MicroSD local storage up to 256GB, and a working range from -40°C to 65°C support deployment at solar farms, pump stations, electrical substations, and telecommunications compounds where network connectivity and maintenance access are limited.

Why Choose the DS-2TD2628-7/QA

The DS-2TD2628-7/QA occupies a specific position in the Hikvision Heat Pro thermal range: a 6.9mm thermal lens gives a 24.9° x 18.7° field of view that balances usable coverage area with a practical VCA detection range, making it better suited to medium-width outdoor zones than a longer telephoto thermal lens would allow. A standard optical bullet camera at the same price point provides no temperature monitoring, no smoking detection, and no ability to detect intruders in complete darkness without additional lighting infrastructure. The DS-2TD2628-7/QA handles all three requirements within a single IP67-rated housing, with PoE, 12VDC, and 24VAC power options to suit a range of installation environments. It supports up to 256GB microSD local storage and NAS, with alarm relay outputs for direct integration with site warning systems. Available through Security Wholesalers, this model includes a 10-year detector guarantee on the thermal sensor, which is a confirmed manufacturer commitment not common at this specification level. Note the 70-day lead time when planning installations.

Buyer Decision Tips

Buyer Tip – Temperature Accuracy and Positioning: The DS-2TD2628-7/QA has a stated temperature accuracy of ±8°C. This means it should be positioned as an abnormal heat detection and early warning tool, not a precision thermography instrument. When specifying for a client, communicate that alarms should be configured with a meaningful threshold above expected ambient temperatures so nuisance alerts are minimised. For fire-risk monitoring in battery charging bays or electrical switchboards, configure temperature rules around specific zones using the point and area measurement rules rather than relying on whole-scene thresholds.

Buyer Tip – VCA Range Planning vs. DORI Figures: The confirmed VCA trigger range for this camera is 56m for humans and 168m for vehicles. DORI reference calculations will show higher detection distances, but those figures describe passive detection potential, not the reliable trigger range for VCA alarm rules. For installation planning and client expectations, use the VCA range figures. The 6.9mm thermal lens is a wider field of view than the 10/QA variant, which gives more coverage width at the cost of shorter maximum VCA detection distance. Select this model when monitoring a wider zone at medium range rather than a narrow corridor at extended range.

Ideal Use Cases

Warehouse Fire Risk and Heat Monitoring

Battery charging bays, forklift charging areas, electrical switchboards, and compressor rooms all generate heat before visible fire. The DS-2TD2628-7/QA’s temperature exception alarm with 21 configurable measurement rules allows zone-specific thresholds to be set, triggering relay outputs or network alerts when temperatures exceed expected levels.

Industrial and Commercial Perimeter Monitoring

Factory fence lines, commercial yards, and warehouse external boundaries require detection that works without perimeter lighting. The thermal channel detects human movement to 56m and vehicles to 168m using deep learning classification, with line crossing and intrusion rules triggering alarm relay outputs and network notifications without requiring visible light.

Waste Storage and Recycling Areas

Commercial waste rooms, cardboard compactors, skip-bin storage, and green waste piles are environments where heat builds before smoke is visible. The combination of fire detection, smoking detection, and temperature exception alarms supports early warning in areas where thermal monitoring adds meaningful risk reduction over standard CCTV.

Construction Site After-Hours Security

Inconsistent temporary lighting, dust, and shadow make standard optical VCA unreliable on construction sites after hours. Thermal imaging is unaffected by these conditions. With support for up to 4 VCA rule types and alarm relay outputs, the DS-2TD2628-7/QA can cover site entrances, tool cages, fuel tanks, and material storage without additional lighting infrastructure.

Remote Utility and Infrastructure Sites

Solar farms, pump stations, electrical substations, and telecommunications compounds require cameras that operate reliably in exposed outdoor conditions. IP67 protection, a working temperature range of -40°C to 65°C, PoE power, and up to 256GB local microSD storage make the DS-2TD2628-7/QA suitable for sites where network reliability and maintenance access are limited.

Manufacturing Workshop Safety Monitoring

Hot machinery, conveyor systems, motors, bearings, electrical cabinets, and welding areas are all candidates for temperature exception monitoring. The DS-2TD2628-7/QA can be configured to trigger an audible or visual alarm and relay output when a defined zone exceeds a set temperature, supporting proactive maintenance and fire prevention in active production environments.

Choosing the Right Model

  • Choose this model if: You need a medium-range thermal perimeter camera with a wider field of view for covering broader zones at distances up to 56m for humans and 168m for vehicles, combined with fire detection, smoking detection, and temperature exception alarms in a single IP67-rated outdoor bullet housing.
  • Choose a different model if: Your application requires precision temperature measurement with accuracy tighter than ±8°C, as a radiometric thermography camera would be more appropriate for that requirement. Equally, if the primary need is long-range narrow-corridor thermal detection at distances beyond 168m for vehicles, a longer focal length thermal variant would deliver better results for that specific geometry.
  • Choose a different model if: Budget constraints require a standard optical perimeter camera only, with no thermal capability needed. A standard 4MP IR bullet camera operating in a well-lit outdoor environment would provide optical detection without the thermal hardware cost and the 70-day lead time associated with this model.

FAQs

  1. What does bi-spectrum mean on the DS-2TD2628-7/QA?
Bi-spectrum means the camera has two completely independent imaging modules running simultaneously: a 256 x 192 thermal sensor that detects heat signatures, and a 2688 x 1520 (4MP) optical sensor that provides standard visible-light video. Both channels stream and record independently. The thermal channel is used for detection and temperature monitoring, while the optical channel provides visual context for verification and evidence.
  2. What is the practical VCA detection range for this camera?
The confirmed VCA detection range is 56m for humans and 168m for vehicles. These are the figures to use for installation planning and client expectations. DORI reference calculations may show higher theoretical detection distances, but those are not the reliable alarm-trigger ranges for configured VCA rules. The 6.9mm thermal lens gives a 24.9° x 18.7° field of view, which suits medium-width zones rather than narrow long-range corridors.
  3. Can this camera replace a compliant fire alarm system?
No. The DS-2TD2628-7/QA should be positioned as an early heat anomaly and fire risk detection tool, not a substitute for a compliant fire detection or suppression system. It is best used alongside a site’s existing fire safety infrastructure to provide additional early warning from areas such as battery bays, waste storage, and machinery zones where heat builds before a fire alarm would typically activate.
  4. How accurate is the temperature measurement?
The stated temperature accuracy is ±8°C across a measurement range of -20°C to 150°C. This accuracy level is appropriate for exception-based monitoring, where you are detecting temperatures that are significantly higher than expected. It is not suitable for applications requiring precise temperature measurement within a few degrees, such as clinical or precision manufacturing thermography. Configure alarm thresholds with a meaningful margin above expected ambient to avoid nuisance alerts.
  5. How does the smoking detection algorithm work, and how reliable is it?
The camera’s on-board algorithm analyses the optical channel for visual smoke signatures. It is a risk-reduction feature that can provide earlier warning than waiting for smoke to become obvious. Performance depends on camera angle, distance to the smoke source, background contrast, ambient lighting, and ventilation in the area. It should be treated as a supplementary detection tool rather than a guaranteed system, particularly in outdoor environments with variable backgrounds.
  6. What power options are available for the DS-2TD2628-7/QA?
The camera supports three power input options: PoE (Power over Ethernet), 12VDC, and 24VAC. This flexibility allows it to be integrated into existing power infrastructure on most commercial and industrial sites without requiring a dedicated power supply type. For remote deployments, PoE simplifies cabling by combining power and data on a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable run.
  7. Can I use this camera on a construction site with no permanent power or network infrastructure?
Yes, with appropriate planning. The camera supports microSD local storage up to 256GB, which allows continuous recording without a network recorder present. For power, a 12VDC supply from a site power board or a PoE injector with a generator connection would work. The IP67 rating and -40°C to 65°C working range handle the environmental conditions typical of active construction sites. VCA alarm outputs can trigger a local siren via the built-in relay outputs without requiring a network connection for the alarm function itself.
  8. Is the DS-2TD2628-7/QA available from stock, and where can I order it?
This model carries a 70-day lead time due to its thermal sensor component. It is not available for immediate dispatch. Orders placed through Security Wholesalers will be fulfilled to the confirmed lead time, so project timelines should account for this when specifying the DS-2TD2628-7/QA for installation schedules. Contact the Security Wholesalers team to confirm current availability and arrange procurement ahead of your project start date.
