Product Overview

For installers and property owners who need intelligent outdoor coverage without constant nuisance alerts, the Dahua DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS delivers 4MP WizSense bullet performance with SMD 4.0 deep learning built directly into the camera. Equipped with a 2.8mm fixed lens, 50-metre infrared night vision, and a 1/3-inch Starlight CMOS sensor, it produces sharp footage across driveways, perimeter fence lines, car parks, and commercial entry points around the clock. It integrates an independent AI chip that classifies detected movement as human or vehicle, filtering out triggers from animals, foliage, and insects at the camera level before they reach your NVR or mobile app. This model also includes a built-in microphone, dedicated audio input and output ports, onboard Micro SD card storage up to 256GB, alarm I/O, and PoE connectivity, making it a practical and well-equipped choice for both new installations and retrofits across residential and commercial sites.

Key Capabilities

SMD 4.0 Human and Vehicle Classification

Using deep learning at the camera level, SMD 4.0 identifies whether detected movement is caused by a person or a vehicle rather than simply reacting to any pixel change. Triggers from pets, insects near the lens, blowing foliage, or passing headlights are filtered out, so alerts only fire when genuinely relevant activity is confirmed.

Starlight Low-Light Colour Imaging

The 1/3-inch Starlight CMOS sensor retains usable colour detail in near-zero light conditions before the camera switches to infrared. For outdoor locations such as poorly lit side gates, pathways, or open yard areas, this colour retention assists identification in a way that standard sensors cannot achieve.

50-Metre Infrared Night Vision

Built-in IR LEDs project up to 50 metres in complete darkness, providing consistent monochrome coverage across driveways, loading dock approaches, and open perimeter areas at night. The extended range reduces the number of cameras needed to cover larger outdoor zones without leaving unlit gaps.

Built-In Microphone and Audio I/O

The integrated microphone captures ambient on-site audio alongside video without requiring extra cabling to an external mic. Dedicated audio input and output ports extend flexibility for sites where external audio devices need to be connected alongside the camera feed.

H.265+ Compression with Flexible Coding Options

H.265+ encoding substantially reduces storage consumption and network bandwidth compared to H.264-based systems. AI H.264/H.265 and Smart H.264+/H.265+ options give installers the ability to tune the trade-off between image quality and infrastructure load to suit each site’s specific NVR and network capacity.

PoE Powering, IP67 Rating, and Local Storage

Power over Ethernet delivers both power and data through a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable, simplifying runs to outdoor mounting positions. IP67 weatherproofing handles rain, dust, and the demands of exposed Australian outdoor environments, while a Micro SD card slot supporting up to 256GB allows local onboard recording where network storage is unavailable or impractical.

Best For

  • Residential Driveways and Front Entries: The 2.8mm wide-angle lens frames the full width of a driveway or entry area, and SMD 4.0 ensures alerts are only generated by confirmed human or vehicle movement, not by the family pet or wind-blown branches.
  • Commercial Perimeter and After-Hours Monitoring: Retail sites, light industrial premises, and warehouses benefit from tripwire and intrusion detection that is scoped specifically to people and vehicles approaching outside business hours.
  • Open Car Parks and Yard Areas: The 50-metre IR range and wide field of view allow a single camera to cover substantial open ground at night, with Starlight adding colour information in low-ambient-light conditions for improved subject identification.
  • Sites Requiring Standalone Local Recording: The onboard Micro SD card slot supporting up to 256GB makes the DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS suitable for locations without reliable NVR connectivity, enabling continuous or event-based recording directly on the camera.

Why Choose the DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS

Entry-level IP cameras may match this model on paper resolution, but without a dedicated AI chip running deep learning, they treat all detected movement equally and trigger alerts on anything that moves. Over time, that alert fatigue undermines confidence in the whole system. The DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS addresses this directly through SMD 4.0, which classifies motion at the camera level rather than relying on the NVR to filter events after the fact. Combined with Starlight low-light imaging for colour retention in near-darkness, a 50-metre IR range for complete night coverage, a built-in microphone, alarm I/O, onboard SD card storage up to 256GB, and IP67 weatherproofing, this camera provides a substantially more capable outdoor solution than basic alternatives at a comparable price tier. It is available through Security Wholesalers with full Australian specification and local support, making it a practical choice for professional installers and informed end-users who want AI-powered detection without enterprise pricing.

Buyer Decision Tips

Buyer Tip: The 2.8mm fixed lens produces a wide horizontal field of view well suited to driveways, entry doorways, and open yard areas at close-to-medium range. If your application requires monitoring a long narrow car park lane, a distant gate, or a road approach beyond the typical viewing depth of a wide-angle lens, a variant with a longer focal length such as 3.6mm or 6mm will provide a tighter field of view with greater subject detail at distance.

Buyer Tip: This camera accepts both PoE (IEEE 802.3af) and 12VDC power, which gives it practical flexibility across new and retrofit installations. For new builds, PoE is the recommended approach as it delivers power and data through a single cable and allows centralised power management from a PoE NVR or switch. For retrofits into existing systems that already supply 12V power to camera positions, the camera will operate equally well without requiring any cabling changes.

Ideal Use Cases

Residential Driveway and Front Yard

The wide 2.8mm lens captures the full span of a driveway or front yard in a single frame, while SMD 4.0 limits alert notifications to confirmed human and vehicle detection only, reducing false triggers from pets and passing traffic.

Retail and Commercial Entry Points

Mounted above a doorway, roller door, or vehicle gate, the camera records a sharp 4MP image of anyone approaching, with tripwire and intrusion alerts that respond specifically to human and vehicle movement after hours.

Warehouse and Industrial Perimeter Fencing

The 50-metre IR range covers substantial perimeter distances from a single wall or pole mount, and the IP67-rated housing withstands the dust, moisture, and temperature variation typical of exposed industrial outdoor environments.

Open Car Parks and Loading Areas

Starlight imaging retains colour detail in poorly lit car parks and loading bays before the sensor switches to infrared, improving the usefulness of captured footage for identifying vehicles and individuals in low-ambient-light conditions.

Remote Sites with Limited Network Access

Where a permanent NVR connection is not available, the onboard Micro SD card slot stores up to 256GB of continuous or event-triggered footage locally on the camera, providing a practical standalone recording solution for remote or temporary installations.

Choosing the Right Model

  • Choose this model if: You need an outdoor bullet camera with AI-powered human and vehicle detection via SMD 4.0, a built-in microphone, onboard SD card storage, alarm I/O, IP67 weatherproofing, and flexible PoE or 12VDC powering for a residential or commercial perimeter installation.
  • Choose a different model if: Your site requires monitoring a long narrow corridor, a distant entry gate, or a road approach beyond the practical depth of a 2.8mm wide-angle lens – a WizSense bullet with a longer focal length will provide tighter framing and better subject detail at range.
  • Choose a different model if: Full-colour night vision in complete darkness is a priority and infrared monochrome footage at night is not acceptable for your application – a Dahua full-colour or TiOC model using warm-light LEDs will deliver colour output throughout the night without switching to black and white.

FAQs

  1. What does SMD 4.0 actually do differently from standard motion detection?
Standard motion detection fires on any pixel change in the frame, which means a passing insect, a swaying branch, or a car’s headlights sweeping across the wall can all trigger an alert. SMD 4.0 runs a deep learning classification on each detected motion event and only generates an alert when the object is confirmed as a human or a vehicle. This filtering happens at the camera level on the DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS itself, before any signal reaches the NVR or app.
  2. Can this camera record footage without a network recorder?
Yes. The camera supports a Micro SD card up to 256GB inserted directly into the onboard slot, allowing local recording either continuously or triggered by detected events. This makes it a practical standalone solution for locations without a permanent NVR, and it also serves as a useful backup recording layer on sites that do have centralised storage.
  3. What NVRs are compatible with the full WizSense AI feature set?
To access the complete SMD 4.0 and intelligent detection features, the camera should be paired with a Dahua NVR that supports WizSense AI functions. On third-party ONVIF-compatible NVRs, the camera will stream and record video as a standard IP camera, but the SMD 4.0 classification, tripwire, and intrusion detection alerts may not be accessible through the recorder interface.
  4. Is PoE required or can a 12V power supply be used?
Both are supported. The DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS accepts PoE (IEEE 802.3af) for new installations where a PoE NVR or switch is used, delivering power and data through a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. For retrofits into existing systems that supply 12VDC power to camera locations, a suitable DC adaptor works equally well without any changes to existing cabling.
  5. What is the field of view produced by the 2.8mm lens on this sensor?
A 2.8mm fixed lens on the 1/3-inch sensor in this camera delivers a wide horizontal field of view, typically in the range of 102 to 108 degrees. This framing is well suited to covering driveways, yard entrances, doorways, and open areas at close to medium range. For longer and narrower coverage requirements, a model with a 3.6mm or 6mm lens from the same WizSense family would be more appropriate.
  6. Does the built-in microphone record audio alongside video?
Yes. The integrated microphone captures ambient on-site audio and records it alongside the video stream without requiring any external microphone or additional cabling. The camera also has a dedicated audio input port and a separate audio output port for connecting external audio devices where required by the installation.
  7. Is the DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS suitable for coastal and tropical Australian climates?
The IP67 ingress protection rating confirms full dust protection and resistance to sustained water jets, making the camera suitable for exposed outdoor installation in coastal, tropical, and high-humidity environments. The rating covers direct rain and water exposure, and the housing is designed to perform without internal water ingress under typical outdoor weather conditions. The DH-IPC-HFW3466EP-AS-AUS is part of the Security Wholesalers range, supplied as an Australian-specification unit with local warranty support.
