3. 6MP vs. 8MP Cameras
6MP Cameras: Provide a balance between image quality and storage requirements. Suitable for general surveillance needs.
8MP Cameras: Offer higher resolution for detailed image capture, ideal for identifying faces or license plates.
When choosing between 6MP and 8MP cameras, it’s important to consider your balance between resolution, bandwidth, and storage. An 8MP (4K) camera delivers ultra-high-definition video with exceptional detail—ideal for identifying faces, number plates, or distant activity. However, it requires more storage and bandwidth than a 6MP camera, which still offers sharp, detailed images and is often sufficient for residential or small business use.
Lens size also plays a key role in how much area the camera can view. A 2.8mm lens offers a wide-angle view (great for covering broad areas like driveways or yards), 4mm provides a more balanced view with greater detail at a slight distance, and 6mm gives a narrower field of view focused on objects further away—perfect for entrances or gates. Ultimately, your choice depends on how much detail you need and how wide an area you’re trying to monitor.
