Hikvision T361: Choosing Between 2.8mm and 4mm Lenses

When selecting a Hikvision T262 camera, the lens size plays a crucial role in determining the camera’s field of view (FoV) and its performance according to the DORI standard (Detect, Observe, Recognize, Identify). Here’s a quick breakdown:

2.8mm Lens

  • Field of View (FoV): Wider, around 105° horizontal. Ideal for covering large areas, such as open spaces, entrances, or parking lots.
  • DORI Performance:
    • Detect: Farther range due to the wide FoV.
    • Observe, Recognize, and Identify: More challenging at longer distances as objects appear smaller due to the wide-angle view.

4mm Lens

  • Field of View (FoV): Narrower, around 78° horizontal. Better suited for focusing on specific areas, such as doorways or corridors.
  • DORI Performance:
    • Detect: Narrower but sufficient for focused spaces.
    • Observe, Recognize, and Identify: Improved at mid-range compared to 2.8mm, as objects appear larger and clearer in the frame.

Which Lens Should You Choose?

  • 2.8mm: Best for wide-area surveillance where a broad perspective is necessary.
  • 4mm: Ideal for targeted monitoring where more detail is required at mid-range distances.
