Everything you need and more
AXIS P7316 delivers video at 30 fps from NTSC/PAL or HD analog video in 1080p resolution. It supports HD analog up to 4K resolution*. Featuring Zipstream with H.264/H.265, it drastically cuts bandwidth and storage requirements. With remote access, you can view video streams on any browser or computer and change camera settings. Configurable inputs/outputs can be connected to external relays and sensors, for example, to activate lights and lock/unlock doors. AXIS P7316 supports two-way audio and intelligent analytics, as well as audio detection with analog and digital AXIS T83 microphones. The RS485 port lets you control analog PTZ cameras and an SFP slot enables optical fiber connection and network redundancy.

Seamless migration to IP surveillance
AXIS P7316 helps you migrate to the world of IP surveillance at your own pace while protecting your investment in analog equipment. Built on an open platform, AXIS P7316 allows you to use open-standard IT hardware or video management software from the supplier of your choice. This compact encoder is rack-mounted, enabling large numbers of analog cameras and audio channels to be integrated into an IP-based, high-density video surveillance system. Furthermore, if you use it with the AXIS Camera Station video management software, you only need one license for all 16 channels.

Typical Use-Cases

1. Migration from Analog to IP Systems
Perfect for upgrading existing analog camera infrastructure to IP. Instead of replacing every camera, the encoder digitizes analog video streams, allowing them to integrate seamlessly with modern network video recorders and VMS software.

2. High-Density Rack Environments
Ideal for installations where space and cabling efficiency matter, such as commercial buildings, factories, hospitals, or universities. Sixteen analog channels in one chassis simplify system management.

3. Fibre-Linked Remote Sites
With its built-in SFP slot, the P7316 supports direct fibre connections — useful for connecting remote sheds, outbuildings, or satellite locations back to a main control room via fibre.

4. Retaining Legacy PTZ Cameras
The RS-485/RS-422 interface allows control of analog PTZ cameras, meaning older PTZs can continue to operate in a modern IP-based security environment.

5. Mixed or Transitional Installations
Useful for hybrid sites — for example, upgrading parts of a nursing home, warehouse, or farm CCTV system while retaining legacy analog cameras for budget or compatibility reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can I run all 16 channels at 4K simultaneously?
No. When using high-resolution (4K or QHD) channels, the total channel capacity reduces. The encoder can process up to four channels at 4K simultaneously or all 16 channels at lower resolutions such as 1080p or 720p.

Q2: Does it support both analog and IP cameras?
No. The P7316 only accepts analog inputs (BNC connectors). It converts analog or HD-analog signals into IP streams, but does not accept native IP camera inputs.

Q3: How much bandwidth does it use?
Bandwidth depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. With H.265 and Zipstream enabled, you can expect substantial savings compared to older H.264 encoders. However, 16 live channels can still generate significant network traffic — design the network accordingly.

Q4: Can it integrate with my existing NVR or VMS?
Yes. The P7316 supports ONVIF Profiles G, S, and T. It will appear as standard IP camera streams to compatible NVRs and VMS software.

Q5: Does it provide PoE power to cameras?
No. The P7316 does not supply power to connected analog cameras. You must power cameras separately using individual power supplies or a centralized 12 V DC distribution source.

Q6: How is it installed?
It is typically rack-mounted (1U size). Proper ventilation is important. You can wall-mount it with a bracket if needed. For long-run or high-EMI environments, use the SFP port for fibre connectivity.

Q7: How secure is it?
Axis includes Secure Boot and Signed Firmware for tamper protection. Axis Edge Vault provides cryptographic key storage to protect device identity and secure communications.

Q8: What is the warranty and lifecycle support?
Five-year warranty. Axis provides long-term firmware and cybersecurity updates, making it a stable choice for enterprise or government projects.

Application Examples (Tailored to Your Context)

Farm or Rural Surveillance:
Perfect for upgrading older coaxial camera runs on long barns or sheds to IP, allowing network viewing and recording without replacing cameras. The SFP slot helps connect distant areas via fibre back to the main NVR.

Rooming Houses or Nursing Homes:
If older analog cameras are still operational, the P7316 allows integration with a modern IP monitoring system while phasing out analog over time.

Security Installer Use:
For integrators handling hybrid upgrades, the P7316 can centralize up to 16 analog feeds into one rack-mounted unit, reducing network cabling and simplifying maintenance.

Commercial or Industrial Buildings:
Useful in factories or warehouses that still have analog camera networks — enables full network integration and digital archiving without immediate camera replacement.

Summary

The AXIS P7316 is a professional-grade 16-channel video encoder designed to bridge legacy analog systems with modern IP surveillance. It provides flexible integration, robust cybersecurity, and scalability for hybrid systems. It’s best used where analog infrastructure exists and full IP replacement isn’t yet cost-effective.
