Junior Security Detective Academy

Design a Safe Home Mission

Use a pretend home map to choose sensible locations for lights, sensors, cameras and safe habits.

A house exterior at dusk with lights

A safe home design uses layers. The aim is not to cover every centimetre with technology. The aim is to protect important areas, respect privacy and make it easy for the family to follow a plan. Good design thinks about doors, windows, paths, lighting, visibility and who needs access.

Your mission brief

  1. Choose two places for lights.
  2. Choose two places for sensors.
  3. Choose one place where a camera should not point.
Safety rule: A junior detective notices and reports. A trusted adult decides what to do next.

Mission activity

Read each card. Choose the best action, then reveal the answer.

Something looks wrong

You notice a door is open when it is usually closed.

Tell a trusted adult. Do not go looking around alone.

Technology asks for a code

An app asks for a password or verification code.

Ask an adult before entering or sharing any code.

Privacy question

A camera could see more than the entry it is meant to protect.

Adjust the angle or ask an adult to check privacy.
