Home security questions
What does home security mean?
Home security means using habits, design and technology to help keep a home safer.
What is a security layer?
A layer is one part of protection, such as a lock, light, alarm, camera or family rule.
Is one security tool enough?
No single tool is magic. Safer homes usually use several simple layers together.
Should kids check outside if something seems wrong?
No. Kids should stay safe and tell a trusted adult.
What should I do if there is an emergency in Australia?
Get help from a trusted adult if possible and call Triple Zero (000) for police, fire or ambulance emergencies.
Alarm questions
What does an alarm system do?
It watches sensors and warns people if something changes while the system is armed.
What is a sensor?
A sensor notices something, like a door opening or movement in an area.
What is the alarm panel?
The alarm panel is the control brain that receives information from sensors.
What is a false alarm?
A false alarm is when an alarm sounds but there is not a real emergency, such as a pet, draft, mistake or wrong setting.
Should I share an alarm code?
No. Alarm codes are private and should only be used by people who have permission.
Do alarms always call police automatically?
No. Some systems send alerts to adults or monitoring services, but not every alarm calls police automatically.
CCTV questions

What is playback?
Playback means watching recorded footage from earlier.
Why does lighting matter?
Cameras need light or infrared to make clearer pictures, especially at night.
Can security footage be shared for fun?
No. Footage should be used for safety and responsibility, not to embarrass people.
Privacy and online safety questions
What is privacy?
Privacy means keeping personal information and private spaces respected.
Where should cameras not point?
Cameras should not be used to watch bedrooms, bathrooms or private neighbour spaces.
