Fixing Blurry CCTV Images at Night Leave a comment

Blurry night footage is a common frustration. It can be caused by weak infrared (IR) lighting, dirty lenses, or incorrect camera settings.

Start by checking your lens for dirt or condensation. Even a thin film can distort IR light. Next, ensure your camera’s IR LEDs are strong enough for the area — some entry-level cameras only illuminate short distances. Adding an external IR illuminator or a small security light can drastically improve clarity.

Focus adjustment is another factor. At night, cameras may shift focus incorrectly. Test both day and night modes and adjust accordingly. If you need higher clarity, consider upgrading to cameras with ColorVu or Starlight technology, which deliver full-colour night vision.

Clear night footage can make the difference between identifying a face or licence plate and missing vital details.
