Alarm System Floorplan Designer – How to Use This Tool
This Alarm System Designer helps you plan the placement of key alarm devices on a real floorplan before installation. It is ideal for designing wired or wireless alarm systems, preparing zone layouts, and producing a product-ready equipment list for quoting or ordering.
Follow the steps below to build your alarm layout.
Step 1 – Upload Your Floorplan
Start by clicking:
📂 Upload Floorplan
Choose an image file such as:
- House or office floorplan PDF export (JPG/PNG)
- Building layout screenshot
- Site plan drawing
Once uploaded, the floorplan will automatically scale to fit the workspace.
Step 2 – Add Alarm Devices to the Plan
After the floorplan loads, you can begin placing devices.
- Select a device type from the dropdown, such as:
- PIR Motion Sensor
- Door Contact
- Window Contact
- Siren
- Keypad
- Alarm Panel
- Custom Device
- Click:
➕ Add Device
A new device will appear on the floorplan.
Step 3 – Move Devices into Position
To reposition a device:
✅ Click and drag the coloured icon directly.
Each icon acts as the movement handle, allowing you to place sensors precisely where they will be installed.
Tip: Place PIRs in corners for maximum coverage, and door contacts on main entry points.
Step 4 – Rename Devices (Optional)
You can customise device names for clarity.
To rename:
- Double-click the device
Examples:
- “Front Door Reed”
- “Garage PIR”
- “Master Bedroom Keypad”
This is useful when preparing zone schedules or installer documentation.
Step 5 – Assign Alarm Zones
Most alarm panels require each sensor to be assigned to a zone.
To assign zones:
- Click a device to select it
- Choose a zone number from the Zone dropdown
Example:
- Zone 1 – Front Door
- Zone 2 – Hallway PIR
- Zone 3 – Bedroom Window
The assigned zone will appear in the device list.
Step 6 – Generate a Bill of Materials (BOM)
Once your system layout is complete, click:
📦 Generate BOM
The tool will automatically count all devices placed on the plan and produce a full equipment list.
You can also choose a preferred system brand:
- Hikvision AX PRO
- Bosch Solution
- Dahua AirShield
The BOM will display suggested SKUs and product links to help with quoting or ordering.
Step 7 – Export Your Alarm Layout
When finished, click:
📤 Export PNG
This downloads a high-resolution image of your alarm system plan, suitable for:
- Customer proposals
- Installer handover packs
- Compliance documentation
- Internal job planning
Step 8 – Pan Mode (Moving Around Large Plans)
For large floorplans, enable:
Pan Mode
This allows you to drag the background to move around the workspace without accidentally shifting devices.
Disable Pan Mode to return to normal device placement.
Professional Notes
This tool provides an excellent starting point for designing alarm layouts, but final installation should always consider:
- Detector coverage angles
- Pet immunity requirements
- Wiring routes (wired systems)
- Signal range (wireless systems)
- Local compliance and installation standards
